Orioles Fall to Detroit 4-2, Ending Five-Game Win Streak

Detroit Tigers Come Back After Recent Home Stand Struggles

After a rough home stand that saw the Detroit Tigers win just three of 10 games, they traveled to Baltimore to take on the Orioles. The Orioles had won five straight games coming into the series, but the Tigers took the first game 4-2 on Monday.

Kenta Maeda started for the Tigers and pitched six strong innings, allowing just two runs on four hits. He struck out six batters and walked one.

The Tigers took control of the game in the second inning when they scored three runs off Orioles starter Dean Kremer. After back-to-back singles by Robbie Grossman and Jeimer Candelario, Miguel Cabrera singled in Grossman.

Jonathan Schoop followed with a two-run double to give the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

The Orioles got one run back in the third inning on a solo homer by Anthony Santander, but the Tigers added another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Grossman.

The Orioles threatened in the eighth inning, but Gregory Soto came out of the bullpen and struck out the side to end the threat. Shane Greene pitched a perfect ninth inning to earn his first save of the season.

The Tigers will look to take the series from the Orioles on Tuesday when they send out Matthew Boyd to face John Means

“Maybe he found something,” Hinch said of Maeda. “He really did a nice job changing speeds, pounding the zone with his fastball, and locating his cutter.”

Maeda said he felt good about his outing, but he knows there’s still room for improvement.

“I’m not satisfied yet,” Maeda said through a translator. “I want to keep improving and getting better.”

The Tigers will need Maeda to continue to pitch well if they want to make a playoff push this season.
